A sports bet offers several possibilities (also named choice or proposal) for a given sporting event.
Each of these possibilities is associated with specific odds.
These odds (a number) allow you to know your potential winnings should your bet be successful.
The more improbable the outcome is, the higher the odds will be. Conversely, the more the outcome is probable, the lower the odds.
Expekt displays the odds for every betting possibility
Man Utd 5.00 Draw 4.50 Juventus 9.25
The odds serve to calculate your potential winnings.
There are 3 types of odds: European odds, American odds and English odds.
By default, the European odds, which are the most common in Europe, are used on Expekt. However, you may choose to change the format through ""My options"" under the ""My account"" heading.
With the ""European"" odds format, you just multiply the amount placed on a bet by its odds in order to obtain the potential winnings for that bet.
It is important to distinguish your winnings from your profits.
Your winnings correspond to the amount of money won on a bet (stake included), while your profits correspond to the difference between your winnings and your stake.
You want to bet on the football World Cup.
You place €20 on the Italy team to win at odds of 6.
If they win, you'll win: €20 X 6=€120
€120 corresponds to your winnings and €100 corresponds to your profit (€120 - €20 stake)
For further information refer to:European oddsEnglish oddsAmerican odds
American odds can be positive or negative.
The system is much more complex. Depending on whether they are positive or negative, the odds will refer to two different things: positive odds show the profits for a stake of 100 whereas negative odds show how much you must stake in order to make a profit of 100.
For example: You want to bet on the match PSG vs. Rennes with the following odds:
PSG winner: -250
Rennes winner: +550
You stake €20 on PSG winning the match, you win: 20 X (1 + 100/250) = €28
Your profit will be: 20 X 100/250 = €8

English odds (fractional odds) give the potential profits directly by multiplying the odds by the stake.
Example: You want to bet on the PSG - Rennes match.
You stake €20 on Rennes winner, with odds at 11/2.
If Rennes win, you'll win:
20 X (11/2 + 1) = 20 X 6.5= €130 Your profit will be: 20 X 11/2 = €110

The European odds (positive number above 1) give the winnings by multiplying the odds by the stake. This is the most straightforward system.
Example: You want to bet on the match PSG-Rennes.
You stake €20 on Rennes winning, with odds at 6.5.
If Rennes win, this gives: 20 X 6.5=€130 Your profits will be €110.

The stake is the amount of money you bet on one or more matches. Your winnings are calculated based on the odds of the outcomes of you bet and the stake that you place. A higher stake creates higher potential winnings.
The bet consists of the stake you place on the outcome(s) you have predicted, at given odds, for certain matches or events.

Choose a password that is easy to remember for you but difficult to find for others.
Tips for choosing the right password:
Try using the initials of a sentence that is easy for you to remember. (Example: IwtSls for I went to Spain last summer)
Use a combination of letters and numbers
Avoid using words associated with your surname, first name, username and so on.
A multiple bet is a combination of several single bets.
This allows you to simultaneously bet on several events (matches, races etc.), multiplying your potential winnings as a result.
To make a combined bet simply choose two or more events on which you want to bet. Make your prediction on each event by clicking on the corresponding odds and save this in your selection. Once all of the bets you want to combine are displayed in your ""Selection"", click ""Next"". The bets can then be combined on the next page by ticking the boxes in the ""Combined"" column.
If all of your bets win (and in this case only) your winnings will be made up of the amount you initially staked multiplied by the odds of each of the events included in your combined bet.
Example: You want to place a multiple bet on the match PSG-Lyon combined with a bet on the tennis Australian Open.
PSG 1.25 Draw 3.00 Lyon 6.00
Australian Open - Winner Andy Murray 8.00
You put €10 on a multiple bet with Lyon as the winner (odds 6.00) and on Murray winning the Australian open (odds 8.00).
If both your bets are successful, you will win your initial stake multiplied by the odds of your two bets: 10 X 6.00 X 8.00 = €480
Single bets are ideal to begin with on Expekt.
To place a single bet, simply select the event on which you want to bet (match, race etc.) and place your bet on the outcome of the event (team 1 win, draw etc.) by clicking on the corresponding odds.
If your bet is successful, you win the amount you staked multiplied by the odds attributed to that outcome by Expekt.
Example (1X2) bet: Lyon 3.25 Draw 3.00 Marseilles 2.25
You want to bet on the Lyon-Marseilles match.
There are three possible choices: Lyon win (choice 1), draw (choice X), Marseilles win (choice 2).
You bet €20 on Lyon to win (choice 1) with odds at 3.25.
If Lyon win, you win: 20 X 3.25 = €65
Types of bets
A sports bet is primarily a way of making sport more fun and exciting. This type of bet allows you to attempt to predict what will happen during a given sporting event and bet money on this taking place. The types of things you can bet on include: the outcome of a match, the exact score, the first scorer, the amount of goals scored, the winner of a tournament, the winner of a race....
For example, for a bet 1X2 on the result of a football match there are three possible outcomes: Team 1 win
, Team 2 win
If you want to bet on Team 1 to win, you place money on this outcome and if you prediction is correct you win more money.
The odds associated with each event will reflect the differences in probability of each possible outcome (for instance, in a football match, the odds for the victory of the stronger team will be lower than those for the victory of the weaker team).
When you decide to make a bet and you win, your stake will be multiplied by the odds associated with the event you have placed money on. There are a range of tactics that you can use to maximize your chances or try to win as big as possible. You can pay it safe by betting on the favourites or try to win big by going with the outsiders.
Don't forget that sports betting is there for your enjoyment and you should never bet more than you can afford to.
